Located at the top of the Castle Hill, the park is a huge green maze overlooking the city of Nice, thus offering a panoramic view over the entire Baie des Anges.
The Château de Nice is one of the historic monuments of the city whose loss is still regretted. Perched on the highest hill, it was destroyed in 1706 by the troops of Louis XIV. In 1822, the town council decided to turn the hill into a large landscaped park. Exotic plants were acclimatized, romantic paths with faux ruins were created, archaeological excavations were undertaken and, at the end of the 19th century, a large waterfall with a faux rock grotto was created. Today, only a few ruins remain, at the heart of a huge green park overlooking the entire Baie des Anges, as evidence of its importance. Now a real living space, it has a huge children's playground as well as refreshment stalls and observation points from which you can admire the Promenade des Anglais and the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea. The people of the Côte d'Azur love to meet friends or family here, for a picnic, a sports activity or a relaxing walk. For the more curious, telescopes are available to passers-by so every corner of the landscape can be observed more closely. A majestic artificial waterfall also attracts much interest.
To reach it, you can take a lift directly from the exit of the old town. As for the most intrepid, they are invited to climb the hundreds of steps on the Lesage stairs, while being careful to take a break on each floor to marvel at the landscape which is revealed as you climb.
