The Régina is a historic hotel nestled on the hill of Cimiez which was part of the heyday of Nice tourism between the late 19th century and the 1930s.
Built in only eighteen months, this majestic establishment in the Belle Epoque style was designed to meet the requirements of Queen Victoria of England. At the time, she regularly stayed on the Côte d'Azur. Behind its imposing façade, four hundred high-class rooms, most then offered a panoramic view over the whole city of Nice. At the foot of the hotel, clients liked to enjoy themselves in the vast park of more than 8,000m². Then, tropical plants, ceramics, cycle tracks and even badminton and croquet courts, could be found there.
Unfortunately, the 1929 stock-market crash put paid to this sublime architectural masterpiece. It was then sold at auction and transformed into a luxury residence of 98 private apartments. At the entrance to the garden stands a white marble statue of Queen Victoria. Today, the lucky tenants can enjoy living in this historic jewel. The hotel's façade as well as its garden, its terraces, its roof and other architectural features have been registered as Historic Monuments since 1992.
