The restaurant La Passion des Mets – Saint-Laurent-du-Var

I was able to discover the restaurant “Cuisine Nissarde” La Passion des Mets and I tell you what I liked.

For Nicolas and Sophie, former students of the Lycée Hôtelier Paul Augier, the wonderful cuisine of Nice, it is “their passion to love” …

Since I had often heard about this address, I decided to test “Passion des Mets” with a friend for lunch.

Certainly, we exceeded the Paillon and even the Var, but this restaurant, newly labeled “Cuisine Nissarde”, is a simple place, nestled in the center of Saint-Laurent-du-Var in a quiet street. It is decorated without pretension but the atmosphere is family and warm; the spirit of Nice and the cuisine of Nice are very present.

We are greeted by Nicolas, with a care for detail and a big smile. We started as an appetizer, with a pissaladière, well garnished and the dough not too thick.

A la carte, fresh seasonal products cooked with love and passion for succulent dishes at reasonable prices. For drinks, on the wine-list, a beer from Nice, a Bellet wine (unfortunately not sold by the glass) will be offered by Nicolas. We chose a lvery fragrant local Varois wine in pitcher. 

I take the “assiette niçoise”, a colorful assortment of stuffed vegetables, fritters, tapenade, peppers … excellent and full of flavor. My friend orders a stew of octopus served with white rice prepared in the pure tradition of Nice, a real treat!

Dessert menu

Finally, Nicolas brings us an enticing dessert menu. Surprisingly, the famous chard pie is not included … they decided to offer it only when the ingredients necessary for its manufacture are in season. Fresh products or nothing!!!

We therefore opt for a fig tart. What a surprise this dessert! A melting tart, a ripe fig accompanied by a speculos ice cream, an excellent combination!

At the end of the service, Sophie shares a few words with us. I understood and felt her sincerity, her closeness with her guests and especially her passion for local cuisine.

I highly recommend “La passion des mets” for authenticity without fuss! 

I will come back because I still have other dishes to try …
