The perfume creation workshop at Galimard – Eze
The creation of my perfume, a unique olfactory experience made possible by the perfume creation workshop.
Being a day in Eze, I chose to test the « Private Collection Workshop » offered by the Galimard Perfumery.
As soon as I arrived at the Galimard Perfumery, founded in 1747, I was immediately immersed in this scented atmosphere.
Welcomed kindly by Irina, the « Perfumer », she directs me to the workshop for the development of perfume.
The fragrance organ
In front of me, a small « organ » with perfumes composed of 18 notes of essences, classified into 3 categories forming the olfactory pyramid:
- the « head » notes: the most volatile fragrance, the smell remains only a few minutes after the vaporization; the scents are fresh, green, fruity and consist of citrus fruits and aromatic notes (verbena, lemon, bergamot, grapefruit, peppermint …)
- the « heart »notes : they constitute the characteristic smell of the perfume and remain for several hours; the scents are marine, flowery and fruity (peony, tiare, jasmine, rose, ginger, orange blossom, pomegranate flower, magnolia …)
- the « background » notes : these are the base of the perfume, the base notes evaporate very slowly, the scents are woody, sweet and leathery (vanilla, musk, wood, patchouli, leather, sandalwood, vetiver root, mousse, tonka bean …)
Turning into a perfumer’s apprentice
On the advice of Irina, I begin the creation of my perfume.
I feel all the bottles, I make my choice among the 18 notes, under expert eyes of Irina, I pour drop by drop the recommended amount of extracts of essences in a graduated test tube … In a few moments, I become an apprentice perfumer !
Once my perfume is finished, its unique formula is registered in the database of the Galimard Perfumery. I will be able to order it at any time. As a souvenir, I leave with my creation of 50 ml of eau de parfum.
« The Private Collection Workshop » is followed by a guided tour of the Museum and the artisanal soap factory.

My advice
When you buy the « French Riviera Pass » on line or in the Tourist Information Offices of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan area, the « Pause Cologne » Workshop in Eze is included.

- Open every day, workshop: 9h30 – 12h30 – 16h00
- Duration: about 30 to 40 minutes
- By car: Oppidum parking at Col d’Eze with shuttle every 20 minutes to Eze Village (6 € / day parking + shuttle)
- By bus, line d’Azur (82, 83 and 112, from Nice, Beaulieu or Monaco)
