“Blue Coast” traditional brewery from Nice

I knew about Nice’s vineyards, but I hadn’t yet been interested in our local beers. And yes, in Nice, we brew beer! I went to visit the Blue Coast brewery, nestling in the hills of Nice, at 18 chemin de Saquier.

First of all, why an English name for a beer from Nice, you might ask?

The founders had a desire to showcase the Côte d’Azur; this magnificent coastline bordered by the blue Mediterranean Sea, but not only that, their wish was to set off across borders to conquer coasts around the world.

Blue Coast was founded in 2017 by a group of beer enthusiasts known as the Bluecoasters. The founders are passionate about their craft and have crossed the Atlantic Ocean, visited breweries in Southern California and immersed themselves in the know-how and culture of craft beer.

Hence the idea: why shouldn’t we make our own quality local beer?
Since then, they have continued to produce beers brewed according to the rules of the art. When passion meets craftsmanship, the result is fabulous!

What’s the secret recipe for this beverage?

Malt + Water + Hops + Yeast = Blue Coast

The cereal mash ferments and produces an alcoholic beverage – easy, isn’t it!

Thanks to a guided tour of the Blue Coast brewery, this magic potion holds no secrets for me. The brewmaster explained the production process to me, so that when all was said and done, I could enjoy an excellent Niçoise beer!

It starts with malting, where the cereal goes through several stages to become a grain of malt worthy of the name, followed by crushing and mashing, with the crushed grains undergoing brewing to obtain a sweet must, then to vary the subtle tastes of the beers, our brewer adds hops as well as spices and plants… then comes fermentation, the stage at which the character of a beer is defined…

The best thing you can do now is enjoy your own immersive experience at Blue Coast!

After the work comes the enjoyment of tasting the different beers and here I had the choice, too much in fact! From the Blonde to the IPA, not forgetting the Rhum Amber, the Tequila Blonde, the white with apricot, the surprising Chipotle with smoked chilli, the Anissa Bella with Nice Pastis, the blonde flavoured with Nice lemon or the Kawa Stout with the refined flavours of Malongo coffee (Maison Niçoise, roaster since 1934)… there’s something for everyone.

You won’t be disappointed. What’s more, at the end of the visit/tasting, you’ll go home with a pack of 6 beers, so you can continue this tasting experience at home!

So, cheers and Issa Nissa!
