Saint-André de la Roche

Discover Saint-André-de-la-Roche with the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau

Saint-André is a small commune bordering Nice. Its territory extends over the surrounding hills of Rimiez and Abadie. It is made up of several discreet hamlets, nestling in the greenery, and is crossed by the Banquière, a tributary of the Paillon that flows into the Baie des Anges. There are plans to develop its natural cave for tourism. Saint-André de la Roche is nicknamed “Lou pais dei babi”, the land of batrachians. The sound of frogs on a peaceful summer’s night…

Heritage

The Château de Saint-André

At the bottom of the Val de Banquière, the Château de Saint-André is a very special building that has stood at the side of the road for centuries. Built perpendicular to the torrent, its large south-facing façade overlooks the village. Its long shape is a reference to the imposing rock on which it was built, earning it its first name of “Rocha”.

Now little-known, this historic building is a listed monument. The heavy, ancient walls of the sub-basement, perforated with loopholes, clearly indicate that a stronghold was established here.
The upper part, on the other hand, is more decorative and contrasts with the warlike walls, revealing its transformation into a country residence in the 18th century.
