Nice Côte d’Azur, unusual accommodation and activities
Nice seduces by its districts, its architecture, its sunny flavours, its artists… But also by numerous accommodations and unusual activities which present the Nice Côte d’Azur territory under a new angle.
Greeters, “a friend elsewhere”
In Nice, a Greeter is a person who is passionate about his or her city and wants to help visitors discover it from his or her own point of view and taste. Since June 2013, Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau has launched “Nice Greeters” in order to develop participative tourism. This free service is based on voluntary work. During a 2-hour walk, each of the 50 Greeters will be keen to give an original vision of the city and share their knowledge. The theme of the tour, shopping, markets, gastronomy, life in the neighbourhoods, etc. are almost secondary, the human experience and exchange are the basis. (Cover photo @OTM NCA / A.Issock)
Lou Camin Nissart, the first GR in the Alpes-Maritimes
To explore Nice on foot and in nature, you should take the new GR “Lou Camin Nissart”, a long urban trail of 42 km that winds its way through the hills to the Promenade des Anglais. The first GR de Pays in the Alpes-Maritimes, this urban trail starts on the Promenade du Paillon to take you to the heart of the port district, before climbing to Mont Alban, which offers a 360-degree panorama. Then come Mont Vinaigrer, Saint-Pancrace and Saint-Roman de Bellet before descending via Magnan to the Promenade des Anglais. Hidden paths, forests, vineyards, olive trees… There are shortcuts for families, the less athletic and people with disabilities.
Take off at La Colmiane
For an immersion in the authentic mountain atmosphere, head for La Colmiane. This historic resort, which has been dear to the hearts of the Azureans for almost 90 years, allows you to discover all the pleasures of the Alps while offering several unusual activities. Take to the skies and enjoy the thrill of the giant zip line – one of the longest in Europe. Other activities include summer tobogganing, via Ferrata and tree climbing.
Observe and relax
Located on the hill, in the Écrins de Belvédère, the Hobbit’s Hut offers an unusual stay in the middle of the forest. Semi-buried at 45m2, it plunges into the universe of the Lord of the Rings. Access is on foot via a dirt track climbing to the peaks.
For an immersion in the heart of nature, head for Gilette, 30 minutes from Nice. A crystal bubble is installed in the undergrowth with a view of the Estéron valley.
