Nice: an eco-responsible destination

The French President announced it on social networks on February the 10th in the late afternoon.

“The Third United Nations Ocean Conference, organised by France and Costa Rica, will take place in 2025 in Nice! Our ambition is to reach an agreement to protect the ocean as a common good of humanity. “

Jointly organised by France and Costa Rica, this summit meeting will bring together heads of state and government from all over the world for one week. This conference is a major event in the fight against global warming and the preservation of maritime spaces. Thus, this decision is “the right recognition of Nice’s commitment to the preservation of marine environments” according to Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis and Delegate President of the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Region.

Nice on the international scene

This is not the first time that Nice will host a large-scale event on the subject. In 2021, it was the venue for the sixteenth edition of the Assises de l’économie de la Mer.

Similarly, many international sporting events will be held in the Côte d’Azur capital. Indeed, it has been chosen as the final leg of the 2024 Tour de France, and it will host several matches of the 2023 Rugby World Cup. The final phase of the Ironman triathlon competition will also take place there for the next 4 years.

Thus, Nice is gradually becoming a city that cannot be ignored on the international scene.

« The choice of the French President to choose Nice as the host city for this international summit also comes, a few months after its inclusion in UNESCO’s World Heritage List, as proof of our city’s ability to prepare and host the biggest international events in the service of France’s influence. »
