This prestigious estate was at first, from 1900, the property of Leopold II, King of the Belgians. Then, when King Albert I took possession of the estate, he allocated 9 hectares to serve as a convalescent home for Belgian soldiers wounded in the Great War. The estate was bought back in 1924 by the Comtesse de Beauchamps who had two of the old houses enlarged and transformed into two villas of very Provençal appearance; then, five years later, by the American architect Ogden Codman who turned it into an architectural masterpiece and gave it the name 'Leopolda'. The estate has belonged since 1999 to Mrs. Lily Safra, widow of the Lebanese banker Edmond Safra.
