As part of the Biennale des Arts de la Ville de Nice dedicated to the Oceans and the holding of the United Nations Conference on the Ocean, the artist Ugo Sciavi is taking over the great hall of the former slaughterhouses with an installation on the world of the abyss.
This retrofuturistic universe is composed of video, sounds and sculptures created from recycled, natural or industrial elements. In resonance with current ecological and technological issues, this hybrid environment summons ancestral mythologies or contemporary imaginations of the deep sea, underwater archaeology or fiction, bioluminescence and bioacoustics.
The disturbing and fascinating atmosphere created evokes the destruction, by climate change and marine pollution, of a world still so unexplored and fantasized.
The title "The Midnight Zone" refers to the bathypelagic zone, the layer of the water column located between 1,000 and 4,000 meters where sunlight no longer penetrates.
This sensitive and striking artistic exhibition is an extraordinary opportunity to address the major and little-known issues of the oceans.
