L’image_Satellite 2024

Exhibition

From 21 September to 12 October 2024

From 21/09 to 12/10/2024, every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 11 am and 6 pm.

The L’IMAGE_SATELLITE festival is designed as an observatory of the still image, listening to the emerging pulsations that nourish contemporary photography.

Reflecting the image
The reflexivity of still image practices is the common thread that connects the works presented in the Grande Halle du 109, on a 2000 m2 stage. At the origin of this bias, the discovery of two photography works: Nos Prisons by Maxence Rifflet and Mänk’áčen by Sergio Valenzuela-Escobedo, which each question in their own way the status of the image, that of the operator and of the “subject” represented.

The first engages in a collaborative work, attentive to the singular discourses of the prisoners encountered, caught in specific prison architectures. The second restores a collection of images drawn from Western archives and the history of photography in the broad sense, and re-situates the point of view of the indigenous communities of South America targeted by the photographic act to reveal the “mystical mechanics” at work.

Both have responded to the festival’s invitation to produce an original exhibition of their respective works.

Under the Sand...
In response, the collective exhibition Under the Sand… is being held in the second half of the Grande Halle, and brings together six proposals that also question the capacity of the image to document an era, by radicalizing the use of the archive and formal experiments, with the works of Laura Lafon Cadilhac, Guillaume Chamahian, Marie Hervé & Elsa Martinez, Terence Pique, Amélie Landry and Thibault Tourmente.

Satellite Prize
The Galerie du Musée de la Photographie welcomes Valentin Valette, 2024 Satellite Prize winner for Ashes of the Arabian’s Pearl. Here, the documentary perspective is combined with an ethnographic approach, and results in a striking dive into the landscapes and social trajectories of the Sultanate of Oman, a territory undergoing political and economic change.

CARTA #1 [guest programmer: The Light Observer]
The L’IMAGE_SATELLITE festival integrates the photographic book at the heart of its programming with the event CARTA #1: editorial practices in contemporary photography, with the invitation of publishers, meetings and events around the photographic book.

Carte blanche to The Light Observer
The duo Eleonora Paciullo and Hugo Berger at the head of the magazine The Light Observer invest the gallery Wednesday/Saturday/ for three weeks of exhibitions, performances and meetings around the still image.
