Exposition – Jànluc Sauvaigo – Les 36 vues du Mont Chauve

Exhibition

From 16 May to 30 November 2024

From 16/05 to 30/11/2024, daily.

Between 2004 and 2010, Jànluc Sauvaigo illustrated a series of sketches from the "popular tale of Nice", set against Mont Chauve, thus giving rise to the 36 views of Mont Chauve.

The first card is inspired first by the Japanese painter Hiroshige, for the others, Jànluc Sauvaigo summons Hokusai and his famous Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. The author will say 'I wanted to celebrate in my own way a magical place in the country. And in Nice, the Bald Mountain was obvious. It can be seen from the Paillon and Var basins, almost everywhere […]

The series begins at the end of the 19th century and continues for fifty years, until around 1925. Each image tells its own little story. By itself, the representation of the transition from a rural society of peasants, shepherds, traditions, to a world of urban planning, modernity, "progress", driven by the railway, the automobile, the tramway, and very quickly by the aeroplane, was established.
