From Wednesday 9 to Friday 11 October 2024.

After Trissotin et les femmes savantes and Tartuffe [Théorème], presented at the TNN in 2015 and 2022, Macha Makeïeff returns to Molière and takes on the most famous of seducers, Dom Juan.

Long considered objects of unhealthy fascination, these predators now find themselves denounced. In staging this darkly comic Dom Juan, Macha Makeïeff examines desire and the cruelty of domination through the eyes of women past and present.

My Dom Juan will be very sadistic. Dom Juan has his Sganarelle, just as Sade had his Latour, a mirror image of his sacrilegious antics. Elvire, on the other hand, will be powerful, ambivalent and dangerous. I'm mounting Dom Juan after Tartuffe because the porosity between the two works is so obvious. Both have a charisma that is as disturbing as it is effective. The predatory man remains a mystery to me. I see in him not only the animal impulse, an unbridled instinct, but undoubtedly a social behavior beyond limits, an exercise in omnipotence. Literature has always described, portrayed, denounced or flattered these virile figures. Today, the predator no longer fascinates.
